CES Achieves Architectural Metal Finishing Certification
Union, Missouri
July 15th, 2007

Crystal Extrusion Systems, a subsidiary of major manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems, is pleased to announce it has recently attained certification as an approved applicator of powder coat finishes by PPG, the leading supplier of architectural metal finishes in the U.S. The PPG certification covers three different industry standards for architectural metal finishes, established by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). Testing of Crystal's workmanship was coordinated by PPG according to the AAMA specifications.

Approval by PPG represents the second major powder coat certification achievement for Crystal Extrusion Systems. Previously this year, global leader Akzo Nobel similarly certified the extruder to AAMA standards for its Interpon powder coatings.

Powder coating is a completely dry finishing process, yielding color-rich, long-lasting surfaces that stand up to any weather, and resist scratches and color fading. The entire process is very environmentally friendly, with negligible pollutants released into the air and easily recoverable, recyclable powder excess waste, compared to traditional liquid paint coatings.

"The PPG and Interpon certifications confirm the quality of our product finishing services," said Thomas Ziegler, Vice President of Crystal Extrusion Systems. " End users of Crystal aluminum - extrusions, building owners, contractors and specifying architects - have the assurance that our finished aluminum extrusion products are as durable as they are beautiful, performing well for the long term."

To achieve certification and become a PPG-approved coating applicator, Crystal Extrusion Systems submitted production pieces to PPG for testing, where successful testing validated that the submitted pieces were properly pre-treated and the coatings applied and cured to specification. Crystal production pieces met all three levels of certification to which they had been tested: AAMA 2603-Performance Requirements for Pigmented Organic

Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels; AAMA 2604-Performance Requirements for High Performance Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels; and AAMA 2605-Performance Requirements for Superior Performing Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels. Re-certification for the superior performance level must be conducted every 6 months.

"This opens many new opportunities for Crystal Extrusion Systems," Ziegler noted. "We are expanding beyond the fenestration industry to serve other related metal markets. Our certifications as a PPG-approved applicator and as an Interpon-approved applicator are valuable assets for this expansion."

Crystal Extrusion Systems offers a wide range of aluminum extrusion services, from design through production, finishing and packaging, to the residential and commercial construction market. Crystal Extrusion Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Crystal Window & Door Systems, one of the top 60 manufacturers of replacement and new construction vinyl and aluminum window and door products and high-end fenestration systems in North America.
